With all the different beauty brands out there it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming knowing what's best to spend your money on and from who. So for this week's post we thought it would be a good idea to tell you what we think seven of the biggest drugstore brands are the best at.
The Best for Primer Maxfactor - Facefinity All Day Primer SPF20 We love this primer. It sits nicely under any type of base and the pump makes for easy application. As well as extending the wear time of your base it also seems to reduce pore size and contains an SPF of 20 which is great for all year round but especially in the upcoming warmer months. |
The Best for Base
Bourjois - 123 Perfect Colour Correcting Cream, Healthy Mix Foundation, Healthy Balance Powder
We were so impressed with this gel formula foundation that since then we have picked up a couple more base products from Bourjois. We have been equally impressed with these, meaning Bourjois stole the top spot for bases. The newest addition, the 123 CC Cream, is a beautiful everyday base with a great neutralising colour and light formula, but with a medium, buildable coverage.

The Best for Concealer Rimmel - Match Perfection 2 in 1 Concealer and Highlighter, Wake Me Up Anti-Fatigue Effect Concealer We've spoken about these two concealers before and even done an individual post on the first one so it's quite clear that we're big fans of Rimmel concealers. My first proper concealer was a Rimmel cover up stick and I've stuck with the brand ever since. The formulas of these two make both of them easy to blend with no caking and they also brighten up dark circles effectively. |
The Best for Cream-Gel Eyeshadows Maybelline - Colour Tattoos Yes, you guessed it! After we raved about these super eyeshadows in this post a couple of months ago, Maybelline was the obvious winner of this category. With a formula we can't fault and a wide variety of shades, these pots of gorgeousness are a must have! |
The Best for Powder Eyeshadows Collection - Work The Colour Eye Palettes I think it's safe to say that Collection eyeshadows are pretty much the Urban Decay of the drugstore. Soft, buttery, blend-able formulas with a great range of colours in matte, shimmer and some glitter. As well as these Work The Colour palettes, you may have seen in our haul post a couple of weeks ago that we picked up a couple of the Eyes Uncovered palettes. Since then we have had a play around with these and they are perfect for any kind of neutral eye look, putting them on par with the others we have. |
The Best for Mascara
Seventeen - Backlash, Va Va Voom
We really like these mascaras as they both create great length and volume, with Va Va Voom being waterproof as well. The shapes of the spoolies are fairly similar and they manage to coat pretty much every lash.

The Best for Lips No7 - High Shine Lip Crayon, High Shine Lip Gloss SPF15, Precision Lip Liner So as you can see we have quite a range of No7 lip products, hence why they have taken top position of this category. Firstly the lip liner is brilliant for making your lips look fuller and more defined and this shade (Nude) is the perfect everyday... well, nude! We also adore these lip crayons as a quick and easy lip fix. Finally, we have both one of the high shine lip glosses and they're perfect to add a bit of sparkle and shine to your makeup look, especially in these warmer months. |
So there you have it - our favourites from 7 of the top UK drugstore brands. Hopefully this will help some of you with what to spend your money on next time you're in Boots or Superdrug.
