Last Friday we finally finished our GCSE exams! There's a post coming soon about what we've learnt from doing exams but for today's post we're talking about a very exciting event - prom. Last Sunday we went to our local golf and country club in Devon to celebrate with the rest of our year group. We had such an amazing time and we thought we would share with you what we did to get ready - including nails, hair and make up.
On the Saturday we both washed our hair and painted our nails. I used a 17 polish in the shade True Blue on my toes as it coordinated with my dress and Nails Inc Porchester Square on my fingers as it's just the perfect nude shade. My fellow blogger also opted for a nude shade - Rimmel Kate Moss Salon Pro in Soul Session - a subtle pinky nude. Both of our dresses involved us showing our legs so for a couple of weeks prior to prom we'd been using tanning moisturisers. There is a more in depth post to come but at the moment our favourite is the Dove Summer Glow Nourishing Lotion. It isn't prone to streaking and builds up a nice glow in only a few days.
On the Sunday morning we both used a couple of face masks. Yet again we have a post coming up that is focused on face masks so we won't go into too much detail here. We both used a tea tree and lemon peel off mask. I also used the Dermologica Hydrating Masque which made my skin feel so soft and hydrated and my fellow blogger used the Garnier Triple Active Mask which left my skin feeling squeaky clean!
The next thing we did was our hair. We both used the BaByliss Pro Curl wand to curl our hair in soft natural waves. We used Tresemme Heat Protect Mist (mentioned in this post) as our heat protectant and then liberally applied L'Oreal Elnett Hairspray to try and stop our curls falling out too much throughout the evening. This hairspray is really good as it can be easily combed out even if parts of your hair have gone slightly crunchy as well as having a strong hold. I plaited back the front parts of my hair as well as curling my mid lengths whereas my fellow blogger just curled all her hair.

Then we did our make up which I think we both found to be the best part of getting ready. Ever since we bought our dresses we'd both been planning what look we wanted to go for so we already knew what we wanted to use.
Base - we both opted for a fairly natural complexion as this is what we normally do and didn't want to suddenly use every product possible. We used different primers - I used the previously raved about Max Factor Facefinity All Day Primer SPF 20 and my fellow blogger used the Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro Primer. We both then used the same foundation - Rimmel Lasting Finish - as we love that it has medium coverage but still has a natural finish and is a really good shade match. For concealer I opted for my all time fave Rimmel Match Perfection and also borrowed some Seventeen Stay Time from my fellow blogger. I then set my base, mainly around my nose and chin, with Bourjois Healthy Balance before using a blush from Wild About Beauty (post on the brand coming soon).
After pressing the Rimmel Primer into my skin (I love this as it really smooths out my skin and makes my foundation last) and buffing in my foundation, I blended the Seventeen Concealer under my eyes, around my nose and on any blemishes. I then set my base with the Bourjois powder and used a tiny amount of the DDP powder to brighten my under eyes. I also used my favourite Rimmel Lasting Finish Blush in santa rose to add some life to my cheeks (although I did almost forget this step!).

Eyes - I think that this is where the products we used differed the most. I used the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On And On Bronze along with an individual No7 shade that was part of a free set - although it doesn't have a specific shade name it does say that it is from the Cappuccino Trio - in my crease. I love this combination because it's not too in-your-face but still adds sparkle to your eye look. I then used two blue eyeliners - Max Factor Excess Intensity in Excessive Cobalt and Maybelline Master Smoky in Navy. I used both these liners as I found the Max Factor one to last a lot longer but found that the Maybelline was a slightly better colour match for my dress. I finished off with lashings of No7 Midnight Mascara.
However, I opted for a very different look. I filled in my brows naturally using the MUA matte palette and set them with my Maybelline Brow Drama in dark brown. I used the Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin all over the lid up to my crease and then blended some of the Soap & Glory Solar Powder through my crease to add some warmth whilst still keeping the look natural. Using my Rimmel Gel Eyeliner in 02 Brown I did a small flick and continued this thinly to my inner corner and applied one coat of Benefit Roller Lash to my top and bottom lashes. Now for the nerve-racking part where inevitably my hands wouldn't stop shaking! I applied Tanya Burr's False Strip Lashes in date night and loved how they looked! Finally I put some of the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Pencil in nude in my waterline to open up my eyes.

Lips - only two products between us for this one! I used Rimmel Provocalips in 730 Make Your Move as I wanted a long lasting, fairly bold colour.
I used the Maybelline Colour Elixir in Nude Illusion as I wanted something glossy, subtle and easy to reapply.

After we'd done our makeup we got into our dresses, put on our shoes and packed our bags. We both had similar contents - phone, money, prom ticket, lip product, powder and mascara/lash glue.
We had such an amazing (and emotional) time at our prom and really enjoyed getting ready. We hope you liked seeing what we chose to wear etc. whether just to be nosey or if you have an event like this coming up yourself.
On a different note, this post marks 9 months since we started blogging. 9 whole months - how time flies! We'd like to thank all you lovely readers and commenters - whether you're a newbie or have been here from the beginning. We really have enjoyed writing a post (or more) every week and will continue to write on here for as long as we can!
Stay beautiful x
