I don't know why these Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets have not had their own post already. These have had so much hype throughout the blogging community for the past 6 months or so that I thought it was time I gave them a mention. As always, I read many reviews about these before making the purchase but many of them were mixed, some saying they were drying others saying they were brilliant. So of course, I took the plunge - being mostly drawn in by the long lasting qualities.
Now I never really intended to have such a collection but when I went to pick them up there was a 3 for 2 on so... you know what happened - it was a good saving of £8.99 to be honest! And for the maths-savy of you out there, yes I did pick up another one after that because it was just a classic I was missing. Can we give a moment to the packaging, please? Just the way they are all so tidy and they line up so nicely (you can appreciate this in my lip drawer photo of our storage post).
But the product impressed me too. Firstly, they're very pigmented. This means they can be worn as a usual liquid lipstick or patted in as more of a stain.
As for the finish, they certainly do go matte. I find building it up in layers is a better way to create the matte finish faster because one, thicker layer does take a good 5 minutes to set. I also find doing layers does help them to last longer.
The shades I own are 02 Frambourjoise, 03 Hot Pepper, 04 Peach Club and 07 Nudist. Frambourjoise is a bright, statement fuchsia pink perfect for the summer. Hot Pepper was certainly a Vivianna Does Makeup inspired purchase - it's a brilliant, cool toned red for any time of year which goes perfectly with a simple black cat-flick. Personally I wouldn't say Peach Club was very 'peach' but I do love it; it's more of a bright orangey shade with pinky undertones to it which I'm looking forward to sporting this summer. Finally, Nudist - also not a shade very true to it's name - is a browny toned pink shade which can be easily built up to a very bright shade.
